Due to the nature of the size of the Mastiff breed, there are certain details that should be paid attention to for the success of young mastiff puppies. Close monitoring and a whelping box is suggested for use with newborn Mastiff puppies, because they could possibly be crushed or smothered due to the mother's large size. Because of the rapid growth spurts that mastiff puppies experience, they should be on a highly monitored diet plan. Excessive running should be limited during the first two years of life, but regular exercise should be maintained as an outlet for their high energy levels (or they may get unruly). Soft dog beds should be provided for growing mastiffs to prevent calluses, hygroma (swelling), and arthritis. Clean your mastiff's skin folds on a daily basis to avoid health issues.

Mastiff puppies must be socialized and trained from a very young age, especially Neapolitan Mastiffs. They need to learn that they are not the dominant member of the "pack" and need to respect the control of the master. They need to get used to strangers and other dogs from an early age. Training may be difficult due to the high energy level of the mastiff puppy.

This is beautiful. The color is perfect and the head is lovely and aristocratic. This and picture #21 appeal to me.

I love the mastiff, but I like the more elegant look with slightly longer legs. not quiet so stocky as the English mastiff. Would this describe the Neopolitan Mastiff?
